It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the cancellation of the OCUTINA 2014 Fall Conference, and with that, the dissolution of OCUTINA.

The executive went into this year’s planning activities with a renewed sense of optimism after the positive discussions we had with the membership at last year’s AGM.  As the year went on however, the question of OCUTINA’s relevance was posed on the listserv and the overwhelming response was that the need for the organization had indeed run its course.  With that message in mind, we decided that OCUTINA deserved a sendoff worthy of kings since it had played such an important role in shaping our careers and institutions over the past 32 years.  Planning for the conference continued with a renewed vigor.  Unfortunately the fate of the conference was sealed when last week a significant number of our tentative presenters informed us that they were unable to attend the conference due to workload and time constraint issues.

We will work on tying up all of the financial commitments relating to conference cancellation over the next month.  Once that is complete, we will have an executive meeting to determine what is to be done with the remaining funds in our bank account, and what is to be done with our website and listserv moving forward.

Cheers to 32 great years and to the hope that our paths will cross again in the near future.

President, OCUTINA
